On the 23rd of August 2021 Clyde Mandie and Kamo Smash released “Bridge The Map” which is now trending on Spotify and Apple Music.
The album consists of 10 original tracks (which you can listen to below), written, composed, recorded, engineered and published by the two of us.
Through “Bridge The Map”, we speak to youth across the world and especially across the continent of Africa. As a young man in Southern Africa the challenges that I face are not that different from those in other parts of this continent. I observed that a good number of youth are getting lost to drugs and other unfortunate decisions they make mostly as a result of unemployment and this as they reach their early Adulthood. I took time to ponder about these common challenges and realised that not only are we losing youth to unemployment and other economic and political factors but also because of poor moral upbringing and critical thinking abilities that affect their views to life. We’re almost another lost generation where we don’t have the tools to self-determine our destiny and create a greater purpose for our lives.
KamoSmash and I felt that the purpose of this album, other than to entertain, should be to educate and build positive messages for youth across the world. Maybe then through our music we can inspire to see a bigger picture and to open eyes to the true beauty of life that we can create with our own hands and minds.
We then infuse elements of the ancient sounds of my Shona culture with day modern electronic sound. This gives our music a unique identity and a palette of sounds that young people can relate to that’s vibey yet steeped in exotic rhythms. If we are to categorize our music into a genre, we see it as Alternative/Indie or WorldWide Music.
Our passion through our music is to empower people, especially youth through the creative arts. Where there is art, there is harmony. When we explain the messages in our music, hopefully, people start to look at things differently.
I feel so proud to have created and published my first Album. It really feels like a huge accomplishment and there is so much more music percolating in this budding collective I have formed that I hope will feed this aspirant musical career.
