My name is Clyde Mandibvenyi, professionally known as Clyde Mandie. I am a multidisciplinary artist from Harare, Zimbabwe. My work explores the sonic landscapes of Shona culture, blending vocal chants, mbira, modern electronic music, and influences from African mysticism and spirituality.
At the heart of my craft is a passion for empowering people—especially youth—through the creative arts. I believe that where there is art, there is harmony, and through my music and storytelling, I hope to inspire new ways of seeing the world.
In July 2021, I released my debut body of work, a collaborative album with Kamo Smash titled Bridge The Map. This project fuses the rhythms of tribal drumming and chanting, intertwining Shona and Zulu to create a singular tonal experience. Bridge The Map sheds light on the realities faced by middle- and lower-class Africans in post-colonial society, while celebrating African beauty, identity, and pride—expressing that originality is not something to claim, but something you are.
In 2022, I was approached by Woolworths SA through a creative agency I was writing for. Tasked with composing a radio mnemonic and television commercial for their Rewards Card campaign, I had the privilege of working with a passionate team dedicated to bringing creative magic to life. This experience deepened my understanding of sonic expressionism—the power of sound in shaping emotion and storytelling.
More recently, in 2023, I was honored to be part of STIMOROL FLOW LAB, a platform designed to uplift artists through industry workshops and studio collaborations. During the workshop, I had the pleasure of creating a record with the incredible Jamie-Lee Sexton—a track that remains unreleased but finds its way onto dance floors during my DJ sets.
Through my work, I continue to explore the intersection of music, culture, and storytelling, using sound as a medium for expression, connection, and transformation.
2024 came as a year of reflection. Breaking a new ground in my multidiscipline approach, by embracing Visual Story telling. Coming from a sculpting background, in my father’s studio- I recall intimate moments with my father, as he sketched and materialized his ideas.
